Who are you?

Hello! I am Nurse Practitioner Dr. Samantha Roche. I am a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I hold both a Master's degree and Doctoral degree in Nursing and a New York State advanced practice nursing license. You can learn more about my education and professional experience here.

What do you do?

I provide consultations, comprehensive evaluations, ongoing medication management, and brief psychotherapy for adults 18 and older. I can prescribe medication that pertains to your mental health if it is necessary and appropriate for you. I also provide services to other healthcare providers and organizations. You can learn more here.

Do you treat children?

Sorry, not at this time.

Are you a physician?

I am not a physician. I am a doctorally prepared Nurse Practitioner. My clinical role is similar to a psychiatrist in that I am authorized by the State of New York to perform assessments, evaluations, diagnose, and treat mental health conditions. I may also prescribe medication if necessary and appropriate.

Are you a therapist or counselor?

I am trained in several psychotherapeutic modalities but I am not able to take on psychotherapy clients at this time. If you prefer to meet with a therapist my staff and I can assist you with a referral. If you live on LI please consider South Shore Mental Health Counseling Services.

Do you take my insurance?

I participate in-network with several insurance panels. Please click here for more information.

How long are appointments?

Please allot at least 60 minutes for a new patient visit. Follow up appointments are usually 25-30 minutes in length.

Why is there such a long wait for a new patient appointment? Why aren't you accepting new patients at this time?

I am invested in what I do! Unfortunately, this means that sometimes I may close my practice to new patients or the wait for an evaluation may be lengthy. It's because I'm doing my best to take good care of everyone who takes the time to trust me with their mental health.

Why are your policies lengthy? Why is the no-show fee high? Etc...

I am invested in your care and I expect you to be as well. Excellent outcomes require a commitment to attending appointments regularly and active engagement outside of sessions as well. Policies are available for you to review here and in the patient portal.

Why do I need to be in the active care of a primary care physician?

So that we can be assured that your physical health is taken care of as well as your mental health. Physical health and mental health are interrelated and equally important to your overall well-being.

Why do I have to use your patient portal?

Not only does the portal house a wealth of information regarding your care, including your upcoming appointments and directions, it provides you with a HIPAA compliant, secure way to communicate with me between visits if needed.
